Call for abstracts, ILCAD 2018 International Conference, Zagreb, Croatia

Each year a partner country of ILCAD hosts the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD). The Croatian railway infrastructure manager (HZ Infrastructure), together with the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences in Zagreb and the International Union of Railways (UIC) are pleased to be co-hosting the 10th ILCAD international conference on
June 7, 2018, in Zagreb, Croatia.

This event attracts railway industry representatives, road authorities, academics, and many others from around the world who are working to raise awareness about the dangers surrounding level crossings. It will launch the annual worldwide level crossing safety campaign. ILCAD 2017 brought together over 40 countries to participate in this global event, either by posting it on their websites or on social media, or by organizing a range of activities around ILCAD day.

Many issues will be looked at this year, in particular “Young level crossing users” be drivers of cars, mopeds or motorbikes, cyclists or pedestrians.

For the 2018 Edition we are currently seeking abstracts related to:

  • Technology– Innovative technologies that can improve safety at level crossings or help users crossing safely
  • Human factors and users’ behaviour, distractions – We live in an age of multi-tasking, with distractions coming from smartphones, video-games, and other electronic gadgets, as well as stress, fatigue, and other factors. What new initiatives are there to counter ubiquitous distractions?
  • Education and Awareness measures, particularly important towards the young public
  • Community outreach – What are the best means of making young users aware of the safety risks at crossings?
  • Enforcement measures implemented to enforce young drivers respecting the highway code and save their life.
  • Land planning or inspection, cooperation between the railways and other sectors (road infrastructure managers, road safety advocates, local authorities, federations of professional drivers, users’ associations, international organisations…).
