The International Level Crossing Awareness Day is a joint commitment that started in 2009 with ELCAD (EU countries + Israel). From 2009 UIC has been coordinating this worldwide event raising public awareness on the dangers of misbehavior at level crossings. The 7th edition of ILCAD on 3 June 2015 gathered 43 countries and was officially launched through a press conference and a round table both hosted by the Turkish Railways (TCDD) in Istanbul.
The railway community, road safety advocates, international institutions, academics and researchers will meet again to officially launch the 8th edition of ILCAD. This year the event will be jointly hosted by
- LDz (Latvian railways) on 10 June 2016 in Riga and
- OLE (Operation Livesaver Estonia) on 11 June 2016 in Tallinn.
The public targeted in 2016 is: “Senior Citizens and people with sensory and mobility restrictions”.
